Windows Installer problem

I'm having trouble with the Silverlight update referred to in another
question. I tried to follow PA Bear's suggestion of deleting Silverlight and
reinstalling it, but I couldn't because Windows installer was absent--at
least that's the only option I could come up with (since I wasn't running in
Safe Mode). I tried downloading it, but was told I didn't need it, since the
one I had was later than the one I was trying to download. I still can't
remove Silverlight, so I can't get away from that update problem--I just seem
to be getting myself in deeper. Any ideas?
(By the way, my name is "Roger Blair"--I can't seem to tell the discussion
system I'm not "Occasional User.")

Which version of windows installer did you try to install?

Which Operating System are you running?

Assuming you have windows XP installed the latest version of windows
installer 4.5 is to be found here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...9-54d056d6f9f4

> Realcestmoi, thanks. Last night, I was tired and panicky--not a good combination. Fortunately, your guess was right--I'm running XP SP3, so your download suggestion was the right one. It took me a little while to get to the deletion and download because I needed to get windows installer working first. Again, many thanks.
