Every time I reboot, Vista will log an event 1035 for every single app
installed on the PC. So, there are a few dozen entries like this every
time I log in:

Windows Installer reconfigured the product. Product Name: DellSupport.
Product Version: 6.0.3075. Product Language: 1033. Reconfiguration
success or error status: 0.

This just started recently and I can't think of any changes that have
happened to cause this. It's extremely annoying and is increasing my
log in time.

Any suggestions?

I have the same thing. I noticed it started on 11/27 and every application
installed is "reconfigured". It does this everytime a user logs on, which
makes log in time excessive. Log in, go get coffee. etc.

Are there no answers for this?

Wow, I was hopeful there'd be an answer down at the end of this. M
too. I have an almost entirely clean machine that I set up just a mont
or so ago (after Thanksgiving). It's got all the recommended updates
Office 2007 + Crysis + Myst V. Oh, and Virtual PC 2007. I've ver
recently set up a Virtual PC running the same OS (ultimate x86) (runnin
on the same machine) and it does NOT exhibit this behavior. It doe
have all the Windows updates.

I'm vaguely suspicious that the problem doesn't actually have to d
with some particular bit of software we've installed but that rather i
something goes wrong during an installation or deinstallation in jus
the wrong way (interrupted, power out, whatever) that something in th
state of the machine kicks it into this mode

I went digging through logs and found that this appears to have started
almost immediately after setting up the machine from the first time (I
messed it up once or twice and decided to just reimage from the DVD dell
sent). The one thing I appear to have done before the badness started
was to -uninstall- the Google toolbar that Dell kindly included.
Curious.

My virtual machine (without the problem) was actually made from naked
Vista install. The real machine (with the problem) is as Dell sent it
me with a bunch of stuff uninstalled (getting closer and closer to just
paving it...)

Hi

I also have the same problem which started for no apparent reason on
28.11.07 and is still happening. Everytime someone logs on to the computer
multiple information entries appear in the event viewer saying "Windows
Installer has reconfigured the product ......" (all the installed
applications; 40 in total). I also purchased my computer from Dell on
30.6.07. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Right then. I have a new theory. I experimented on my "clean, does not
show problem" virtual PC and install/uninstall of everything Google
didn't cause the problem. I then backed up my main machine and tried
(I'm not sure why) -uninstalling- the "Dell Support Center". Voila,
problem goes away. Will now try installing it again (I'm not sure from
where, presumably it's a Dell download, I think the first time it was
"suggested" by its predecesor, "Dell Support", maybe there was something
weird about Dell Support attempting to install Dell Support Center while
uninstalling itself?)

"Dell Support Center" really appears to be the problem at least in m
case. If I uninstall it the problem goes away. If I install it again th
problem comes back. Delightfully reproducible

Hi,

Ditto! I uninstalled Dell Support Centre and the problem has gone away.
Thanks!

Thought you might be interested to know that I contacted Dell Technical
Support previously about a problem I had with an ATI update which was
recommended by Dell Support Centre, and which I installed using the Dell
Support Centre link, and it caused the ATI application to stop working and
created other problems on my system. Believe it or not, the Dell technician
recommended that I uninstall Dell Support Centre as the updates from Dell
Support Centre sometimes stop applications from working!

Dell Support Centre seems to create more problems than support.

Thanks again.

The latest release of Dell Support Center seems to have corrected the
problem.
