I am running Vista Home premium with service pack 2. Now when I try to
install VMWare workstation, I get the following message:
"An error occured installing the package. Windows installer returned
'1601'."

Now some people have suggested me to use Windows Installer Cleanup
utility. Now when I try to
install its installer, I get the following message:

Script:
c:\Users\anishuq\AppData\Local\Temp\IXP000.TMP\Sta rtMsi.vbs
Line: 17
Char: 1
Error: Permission Denied
Code: 800A0046
Source: Microsoft VBScript runtime error

What can I do? I really need to install softwares like VMware
Workstation.
Please Advice.

Bye.

You need to Re-register the Windows Installer to fix the Error 1601 issue

1.. Click Start, and then click Run.
2.. In the Open box, type msiexec /unreg, and then click OK.
3.. When this process is complete, click Start, and then click Run.
4.. In the Open box, type msiexec /regserver, and then click OK.
5.. When this process is complete, reinstall the update or program.
