You could try this.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, found here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
This may help when you receive the kind of errors found here (the errors can
happen with any program that uses the Windows Installer, and are not
necessarily confined to just Microsoft Office programs):
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=295823
Run Windows Install Clean Up as Administrator (a shortcut should be in the
Start Menu). Highlight all references to Open Office (only!), if they
exist, and click on Remove. Don't remove other entries for other programs
(like Acrobat Reader, for example), or they will stop working.
Now install Open Office using Run as Administrator.
If that doesn't work, try downloading a new copy of the file directly to
your Vista computer. Unblock it, etc. You can also order a CD with Open
Office, for about $10.50.
