tried to install open office and recevied the following.."This instllation
could not be opened. Verify that the package exixst and that you can access
it or contact the applications vendor to verify that this is a valid windows
installer package"

i have down loaded th program 3 times and the same thing happens.

No joy from open ofice forum for a novice like me.

Is this a windows installer problem
Software problem
and is there away around it.

And at A$375 for the basic office I can not afford but can understand why
piracy is ripe. At these prices microsoft is not helping iself defeat piracy.

Thanks

Hi, Carey.

I believe the OP is trying to install Open Office, not Microsoft Office.

No, I don't know how to solve the installer problem. :^{ But my suggestion
would be to go back to the Open Office Forum for more instructions.

Hi R.C. -

The OP may want to consider purchasing a very low cost
Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 edition.

Example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116135

Thanks alot hve tried a few things,

Re office student @$249 is still to high me me but regardless what I am
trying to sort out is obvious a VISTA problem.I down loaded Open Office 2.2.1
on my XP system inside and it was opened and installed by the Open office
installer in the program.

Come back to my lap top and vista and windows installer will still not allow
it to be installed.

My conclusion is Vista widows installer is at fault and not the program.

Question? can i stop windows installer from working while I install the
program using the inbuilt open office installer?

Note that the installer file is about 108MB. That's a big file, and
something may have not downloaded correctly. Does the file on your computer
look to be about that size? Right-click and look at the Properties. You
may have to re-download it. When it's downloaded, right-click on it and
choose Properties. Unblock the file (Apply, OK). Then do as Doug suggested,
and right-click the file again, and choose Run as Administrator. The file
uses Windows Installer to install the program, which is how the installer
file was designed by the Open Office developers.

You could try this.

Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, found here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

This may help when you receive the kind of errors found here (the errors can
happen with any program that uses the Windows Installer, and are not
necessarily confined to just Microsoft Office programs):
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=295823

Run Windows Install Clean Up as Administrator (a shortcut should be in the
Start Menu). Highlight all references to Open Office (only!), if they
exist, and click on Remove. Don't remove other entries for other programs
(like Acrobat Reader, for example), or they will stop working.

Now install Open Office using Run as Administrator.

If that doesn't work, try downloading a new copy of the file directly to
your Vista computer. Unblock it, etc. You can also order a CD with Open
Office, for about $10.50.

Thanks for yor efforts mate.
Installed open but not as administrator as no shortcut in startup and not
sure where to find.

There was no reference to open office so It wouldn't show under
administrator either or am I wrong.

Running out of time here have a 160km one way trip for a work medical and if
succesfull fly to Perth tomorrow.

may have to try for the disc but takes awhile from the states to here. just
can not afford to spend the money on microsoft unless this job application is
succesfull.

Once again thanks for your help and will check again when I get back late
this arvo.
