Windows Installer UAC Problems

Hi All,

I had a problem installing Photoshop and followed the recommendation to run
the windows installer cleanup utility. this has screwed up my entire pc,
corrupted my profile and cost me an entire day to get my pc back into shape.
However, I still have one major problem. Somehow, Windows Installer no longer
works under UAC, which causes all sorts of problems. For instance, every time
I start up an Office 2007 programme, it starts configuring things and then
tells me "Microsoft [Word] is not installed correctly for the current user.
Please run Setup". I've tried for many hours to find a solution for this and
then realised that it all works fine when UAC is turned off. Also, driver
installations which normally happen automatically go into an endless loop now
when UAC is turned on, but all is normal when it is turned off.

My conclusion is that after the installer cleanup utility, somehow the
permissions got messed up for windows installer. I've searched through the
registry but couldn't find anything unusual. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

If it's registry corruption, then running a System Restore back to a point
prior to the problem may sort it.

Thanks, Jon. The problem is that my entire profile got corrupted and I had to
build a new one. I tried system restore in the old profile but only got an
error message. The new profile doesnt' have a relevant restore point.

Anyone, please?

Is there any way to reinstall Windows Installer? I keep having the same
problem. I need to have UAC turned off in order to make my PC work, otherwise
the following happens:

As soon as it boots up, an installer for Logitech Quickcam comes up and the
progress bar goes 90% up, then the whole process starts again in and endless
loop (all drivers are properly installed and everything works with UAC off).
If I try to start any office application then an installation window comes
up, it takes a while and then it says "Microsoft [Word] is not installed for
current user. Please run Setup". Setup and Office re-installation doesn't
work.

So my guess is it was the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, which screwed
everything up and now Installer is corrupt. In the meantime, i have installed
Vista SP1 RC1, hoping that it would reinstall Windows Installer, but it still
doesn't work.

Any help highly appreciated
