windows keeps freezing up....help!!!!

When I go to windows microsoft to get my updates it starts to dl them and
then the screen freezes up....I have tried many times and it keeps doing the
same thing over and over. I have rebooted and restarted and nothing helps. It
worked fine till I went to get the new updates for 7-11-06....Please can
anyone help me!!!!!! Please
I have Windows XP 2005....

if you have a firewall on..it apparently won't allow the updates to install.
I disabled the firewall to install...and then rebooted and put the firewall
back up.
