Windows Live Beta Installer Broken

I attempted to install the latest Messenger beta. Clicking on the link
launched the Windows Live Installer. I just wanted Messenger. Please don't
package the Windows Live Services like this.

When I attempted to run the installer, it took 5-7 minutes to "check for
installed programs." When the installer started I got prompted to close
Internet Explorer. I did that. Then I got prompted (in a second dialog box)
to close Outlook. I did that. Then I got prompted (in a third dialog box) to
close 14 separate processes which included Windows Explorer, OneCare,
Internet Explorer (which wasn't running) something called the DPPRAgntModule,
my HP Printer, and the Task Scheduler Engine.

I cancelled the installation and won't try again until you unpackage the
products and fix the installer.

Greetings,

If you go to:
http://get.live.com/WL/all

You can uncheck what you want before running the installer.

It's really slow for everyone I'm afraid.

What's really scary is that the "Live" properties are supposed to be the
direction of the 'new' Microsoft headed up by Groove Networks founder Ray
Ozzie (does anyone actually use Groove?). Good sign that it's time to buy
more Google stock.

Since I didn't actually mention it originally, I too was highly disappointed by the
Installer.

The applications themselves however are very good. Live Mail is rather buggy but it does
show a lot of premise; mainly just visual glitches from my use over the past week.

why did you guys do it in the first place, when you knew you had problems
with it?

Jonathan doesn't work for Microsoft, so asking him why they 'did it in the
first place' might be a tad mis-directed.

I take back what I said about Google. I just had to uninstall Google Desktop
on Vista Ultimate. It had a memory leak that was eating up a half a gig of
RAM each day. Then the Outlook search addin was crashing Outlook 2007. While
the feature set and implementation of Google Desktop is superior, I'm back to
the less-than-adequate Windows Search and sidebar. Windows Search is buggy
but not eating memory.

Since this is a forum for Windows Live, I should bring it back around.
Regarding the bundling issue, Google also bundles. Their Desktop package
includes a sidebar, search etc. You have to select the things you don't want
installed. Apple is doing it too with iTunes and QuickTime. I understand
bundling. I guess my issue is that the types of things Windows Live is
bundling things that don't go together. IM and Email are in different domains
and should be delivered separately. Apple bundling iTunes with Quicktime is
completely wrong too partly because they're two completely different things.
I don't need iTunes to use QuickTime. Perhaps bundling LiveWriter with email
makes sense or search with both email and IM makes sense. But putting mail
and IM together seems inappropriate. That's the issue.
