Greetings,

Since it did work at one point, to start troubleshooting this you might just remove the
locally cached store of your contact information.

To do so, shut down Messenger and delete the following folder:
\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts

Where username is your Windows username. Additionally, some of these folders will be hidden
if browsing by default, so to see them simply press the Alt key on the keyboard in any
Windows Explorer window to bring up the toolbar, click Tools, then Folder Options, then the
View tab, and then choose 'Show hidden files and folders'. After click OK, they should appear
with the other folders.

I am having a similar problem. I have Vista and Windows Live Messenger. All
of a sudden a few days ago I began getting this message: "There was a
problem with Messenger Services (a temporary connectivity issue that has
nothing to do with your computer) Please try again" This happens when
messenger is running and I switch over to use IE 7. It then shuts down
Messenger and if I want to use it I have to restart it...only to have it
happen all over again. Will clearing the cache help me or is there some
other issue. I am wondering if it is caused by a recent Microsoft update?

Hi Sue,

I've only seen the error you've described in dealing with Hotmail web-based issues - although
it appears it can happen in Messenger too.

Is it completely consistent? In other words, does it *always* happen when you switch to IE?
and if so, what do you do in IE when you get there (a specific site, etc.)?

There's no harm in emptying the contacts cache however, so give it a shot.

I started getting this message a couple of days ago. I get it when press new
message or try to open a newly received message. I have uninstalled &
reinstalled. I have checked the connectivity settings on my computer.
Nothing is working.

I am still having the problem. In fact, it popped up when I clicked to read
the posts in this discussion group. For me, now, it is just a big
inconvenience as I have deleted Messenger which tells me it IS a Messenger
Web based issue. I don't even know what that is. All I have to do is just
click to make the message go away. It pops up several times a day. I do
wish that someone from Microsoft could look into this issue and fix it for me
and all others out there who are affected.
