Windows Live Device Manager Install Failing

Greetings!

Every time I sign into WLM I get a pop up asking me to install Windows Live
Device Manager

Pic: http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/844...icemanager.png

So I attempt to as it is quite annoying having this pop up EVERY time I log
in or connect a new device (doesn't seem to matter what, even things that are
completely unrelated e.g. I just plugged in my GPS unit and it popped up...)

The file WLDMWWEN.msi gets downloaded, which I then open. The setup opens
but immediately I get this error message:

"A compatible version of Windows Live Messenger is required. Please install
the latest version of Messenger."

Pic: http://img387.imageshack.us/img387/4503/wldmerror.png

This is on fresh version of the latest version of WLM straight from the
Windows Live site. I've tried reinstalling WLM multiple times with no result.

Is there a file left over from WLM 8.5 (which I just upgraded from) that I
need to delete to convince the setup that I really am running WLM 9.0?

Thanks!
Dan

Greetings Dan,

I've too seen this, it's from previous installs of Messenger. I've actually not completely
had time to sort back to which versions mess it up, so I can't be more specific yet.
Uninstalling and reinstalling won't help.

That said, I actually developed a tool to fix this problem. You can download the tool here:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/dow...allerFixer.zip

It's not a complete tool yet, which is why it's still labeled beta, but it should do the
trick. Note, the tool requires the .NET Framework 2.0 or higher installed to run.
