Windows Live Essentials 2011 Update

Version 15.4.3835.0513 was released yesterday (probably not in all markets yet).
http://windowsteamblog.com/windows_l...ials-2011.aspx

The experience of WLMail is, so far, disappointing to say the least. Simple bugs dating from last September have not been fixed
(although sort by /To/ in a Sent items folder now works), and new ones/reduced functionality have been introduced. 'Send to > Mail
recipient' for an image file still requires the user to be signed in, and (after a quick look) converting a photo email to a
standard one with attachment using the paperclip no longer works.

I couldn't start a new newsgroup post nor a reply to an old one in plain text despite having that option selected at Options > Send.

More testing and, I suspect, more disappointment awaits.

Noel, I too installed the update and it doesn't do anything to help the
newsreader part which is what I need.
In your opinions what is the best news reader I can use for free? It needs
to be fairly plain and easy to use, I tried Forte but its too complicated
and is no longer free.

Thanks for any answers to help a 77 year old newsreader junkie.

Regards, Rene

Thunderbird does mail and news. I hacked in Vista's Windows Mail and use
that for news on my Win7 machine. Google Gravity. They keep making that a
better newsreader.

If you mean that quoted material in plain text messages is not indented and not marked with an indent symbol, then yes. No change.

===============================

Not for me it isn't.

It has its quirks/bugs/etc but so does everything else -- and I hate having
to use multiple programs (each with *its own* ways of doing things) when I
can get all the functions in one, even if it does mean I have to remember a
few oddities here & there that may be different from the oddities I've been
used to in previous versions of a multipurpose program.
