windows live installation hangs at 99% when loading messenger

Does anyone have a soution for this annoying problem? I'm running vista 64
bit and I've tried booting into safe mode, disabling my firewall and running
the executable directly from the the main site (not saving to disk) but the
installation always hangs at 99% while messenger downloads / installs.
