Trying to update Windows Live Messenger on a Vista Computer runnin
Windows Live Messenger version 2008. I get notified that a new versio
of Messenger is ready to be installed. When I run the update using th
Windows Live Installer program, it completes the install 100%, the
proceeds to rollback the entire install. It gives me error #0x80070643
and says there may be another installer running at the same time (ther
is not). This has happened each of the 3 times I have tried to run thi
update.

Another error I am getting from this Windows Live Installer:"a networ
error occurred while attempting to read from the fil
c:\windows\installer\photolibrary.msi"

Searching on that error message, I found this
https://www.microsoft.com/communitie...r=US&sloc=&p=1

But nothing here has helped either....
Any ideas?

thanks in advance..

Greetings,

You can see the log file referenced in the thread you've linked to as that will provide more
detail as to why it's rolling back.

The "network error occurred" simply means the file is missing and generally happens in these
upgrades as they're forcing the latest photo gallery to be installed as well.

It sounds like there's several problems here. If you just want to avoid all this and to
really see if there's an error stopping the direct installation of Messenger, you can just
download and install Messenger using the MSIs (this is exactly what the installer does).

On an up-to-date Vista installation, all you need to do is download and run two components:

Then install the Communications Platform:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/red...e/contacts.asp

If that works, Messenger should now be accessible on the start menu.

Hi,

I'm actually surprised that works (copying the MSI) since it's a 8.5 upgrade, very
interesting.

Here is Phat94gt's post from the MS forum

Actually, I found a solution that worked for me:

1. Manually uninstall all the Live applications, except the Phot
Library.

2. Download Windows Live Photo Gallery Beta from
'Installing/uninstalling Windows Live Wave 3 beta applications
Windows Live
(http://messengergeek.spaces.live.com...y?sa=495201364

3. Move the downloaded PhotoLibrary.msi file into C:\Windows\Installer

4. Run the msi

5. Run the windows live setup and install / update any Live programs

This did the trick
