Unfortunately there no real known fix for this in 2009, but I would be interested in knowing
which model and manufacturer of webcam you're using.
However, there is no reason you can't downgrade. To do so, just head over to Add or Remove
Programs or Programs and Features in the Control Panel, choose Windows Live Essentials to
uninstall and then proceed to uninstall Messenger.
You can then re-install the previous version of Windows Live Messenger from here:
