Windows Live Mail does not shutdown properly

After checking and reading my mail I shut down WLM. The next time I try to
start WLM I have to go into Task Manger and end the WLM process. Once this
is done WLM starts with no problem I had the same problem with Windows Vista
mail before I c hanged to WLM.. Can anyone tell me what is causing this to
happen?

Not definitively without further information but something is hanging when
you try to shut down WLM.
Simplest way to correct should be to un-install WLM then re-install using
the web installer at http://download.live.com.
All your mail will be preserved but you may want to export your account
information before you un-install then simply import it again after you've
re-installed.

Interesting..the latest version of WLM was supposed to have patched the ability to open WLM if wlmail.exe was still running, but
first ending process on wlmail.exe before calling wlmail.exe to open. It did not address, afiak, the ability to stop wlmail.exe if
the process remains running after WLM closure.

How many messages are stored in WLMail?
How many accounts are setup?
Are you signed in to Windows Live? (Does it say Sign in under the Close X?)
Are you virus scanning emails? Spam program?
How long is WLMail open before you shutdown?
