I have Hotamil account in Windows Live. I installed Windows Essential so I
could get to my Hotmail direct on my start menu. So after installing the
POP3 link to get my mail etc.... I attempt to sign on to Windows Live Mail
from my start menu.

I get the following error message:

Windows Live mail could not be started. Closing Windows Live. YOur Calendar
contains corrupt data that is forcing Windows Live mail to close ( id:
0x-8000FFFF) is at the end of the error message.

Second part of this: If by some chance I am able to get into the mail....
and again I am trying to get into hotmail, I only see the new e-mails that
have posted. Any of my saved /sent/ or folders that contain prior e-mails
are not there for this hotmail account.

What have I done incorrectly, it must be something I can't see.

I am using Wiows XP, IE8

A few suggestions

http://taurarian.mvps.org/WU_Vista/8000ffff.htm

The discussion shown here suggests that this problem is due to the Office XP
SP3 update:

http://www.microsoft.com/communities...f957de147c&p=1

You might see if the following search yields anything relevant to your
situation:

http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...icrosoft%2ecom

MS offers 2 resolutions for the 8000FFFF error. PABear has posted one.
The other is: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949104

Other than that, an in place upgrade or a format/reinstall are the only
methods left to resolve the error.

Also, from KB958690:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958690

There is, for example, at least one "hotfix" for a similar problem (error is
not identical) in Windows 2000. So, a lot would depend on what version of
Windows you're running.

"Error when you download updates using Windows Update or Microsoft Update:
8000FFFF

However, there is a very good chance are that you are seeing the affects of
a hijackware infection.

1. See if you can download/run the MSRT manually:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/ma...e/default.mspx

2. Run this online scan (in safe mode w/networking, if need be):
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/howsafe.htm

3. Run a thorough check for hijackware, including posting the requested
logs in an appropriate forum, not here.

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

You don't sign in to Windows Live Mail; you just run it, like any other
email application.

You have configured Windows Live Mail to sign in with a Windows Live ID when
it starts; and it is not able to synchronize to the Calendar. I don't use
that feature, so I don't know how to fix it. But you could either try a
different Windows Live ID, or turn off the Windows Live ID sign in.

Since you are accessing a Hotmail account, and using Windows Live Mail for
access, you don't need to use POP3 access. I would suggest creating some
custom folders in the WLMail Storage folders, and copy/move your Hotmail
account email messages to those folders. This is a very important step, to
prevent loss of email history; and you must create the custom folders under
the Storage folders, or you will lose your email.

Then I would delete the Hotmail POP3 accounts. You should receive a warning
that doing so will delete all of your email for that account. If you have
copies of those email messages in the Storage folders, you won't lose the
Storage folder messages. If you have saved your account email in the Storag
folders, you can safely use, "OK", at this step.

Finally, I'd recreate the Hotmail account, but set it up for HTTPMail
access. Once the account is established, and you positively know it is using
HTTPMail, not POP3, you can restore your saved email from the custom folders
to the Hotmail account folders.

To check whether you have POP3, or HTTPMail, go to the Account Properties,
and check the "Servers" tab; you will see either, "My incoming mail server
is a POP3 server", or "My mail server is an HTTPMail server".
