Yes, you can set up WLM however you like.

I'm not a fan of the new WLM becasue of it lame color choices but since OE
will not download Hotmail any longer I have to do something either use the
website or use WLM

My question is can I set up WLM so it doesn't download my main email account
but only my hotmail account, in other words can I set it up so I us OE for
my main email account and then use WLM for only hotmail accounts ?

Open WLM, Click Tools|Accounts. Click the Add button. Click Email Account.
Enter your hotmail address, your password you use to access that Hotmail
address online, then enter the name you want displayed. Click Next. Click
Finish. You're done.

If you have more than one hotmail address, repeat the steps above. They will
all be separate and have their own Inboxes and folders.

Just remove the other accounts from WLM. Tools, Accounts.

Note that if they are POP3 accounts, the messages will also be deleted
in WLM unless you copy them to Storage Folders.

It doesn't work as you once did all the hotmail messages are mixed into the
OE inbox... not the way I want it

Before you install WLMail, create a new Identity in OE. Make it the
default.
Add the Hotmail account to WLMail.

Fyi

OE will not download Hotmail using the Http protocol(up until Sept 1, 2009 that protocol was Web DAV; WebDAV ceased to exist on
Sept 1)

OE will download mail from the Hotmail Inbox using Pop3. While use of Pop3 will download your Hotmail account Inbox, it does not
download or sync with the other Hotmail folders(like WebDAV did in OE)
