Windows Live Messanger Sign In Problem - error code 80040154

I just accessed Windows Live Messanger, an older version, and was told as of
September 15 I can not continue until I install the newest version. Once
installed I can't sign in and get the Message "We Can't Sign You into Windows
Live Messanger... Windows Live Messanger failed because the service is
temporarily unavailable. Please try again later". I've looked at "details"
and there's an Error Code of 8004015 which I've googled. I get "KB987: Error
code 80040154. Class not registered" and have followed the instructions
about permissions and full access. I've also tried to "register" msxml3.msi
where upon I get a message "The module C:\windows\system32\msxml3.dll was
loaded but the call to dllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80070005."
I've also reinstalled msxml3.msi and tried to re-register and get the same
message.

I've checked my time which is correct and tried many solutions as suggested
by other posters, but to no avail. I'd go back to an earlier version but as
stated above as of Sept 15 it's madatory to use the newest version which for
me, and many others obviously, doesn't allow us to sign in. Has anyone a
solution, I'm at my wits end trying. Web version is fine naturally. I'm
running Vista 64bit

Are you by any chance using ZoneAlarm as your firewall?

-

- *Windows Vista or Windows 7*&#8230

- Click -Start, Control Panel-
- Choose -Allow program or feature through Windows firewall-
- Switch to the -Exceptions- tab
- Check if the entry -Windows Live Messenger- is checked. If i
is not, click the checkbox so the check mark appears
- Confirm your changes by clicking -OK-

- Checking your proxy setting

- Open -Internet Explorer-
- Click -Tools, Internet options-&#8230
- Switch to the -Connections- tab, and click the -LAN settings
button
- If the option -Automatically detect settings- is checked, unchec
it
- Click -OK- to confirm your changes

Thats nothing to do with a anti-virus protection or Firewall.

Thanks for the reply. I already had Windows Live Messanger in Exceptions,
didn't have to add it and in LAN Settings "Automatically detect setting" was
unchecked. This is killing me not being able to find a solution.

I found a solution to running my old copy of MSN Messanger and not being
forced to upgrade to Windows Live Messanger 8.5 when signing in. I did NOT
find a fix for my original post but I'm happy just to have Messanger running.
Thanks to Stephen Boots, MVP Windows Live for the fix.

Follow this link for 1. if you can't get 8.5 installed on a 64bit machine
AND 2. (what I did) to be able to run an old version without being forced to
update to Windows Live Messanger 8.5.

My original problem seemed to be a common problem from what I've read in
these groups that after updating to 8.5 you get the Message that you can't
sign into the server and to try again later.
