I have a major issue with my WLM at the moment, all of my emoticons (smilies,
hugs etc) are only displaying the basic charactors on my MSN like this:

:-) is displayed as I have placed it there, instead of a yellow smiley, and
I had a custom emot which is << which gives a backwards hug... Any
suggestions or work arounds? It only did it after I upgraded from 2008 to
2009, however downgrading does not fix this issue... Regards,

Greetings,

Well I guess the first thing to verify is that the emoticons have been turned on, although to
the best of my knowledge the setting hasn't changed location from one version to another.

You can do so by pressing the Alt key in any Messenger window to bring up the menu bar, then
the Tools menu, then Options, then the Messages category and you'll find the two options for
emoticons at the top -- Show emoticons and Show custom emoticons. If they aren't checked, do
so, then click OK, then close and reopen all conversation windows for the setting to apply.

Hi,

You're very welcome. The latest version is hardly bug free, but it should be fine for most
people.

Many Thanks, I use an "add on" which shall remain nameless, but it's very
popular, so I shall wait till that moves out of Beta testing.

Thanks again.. :-)
