Windows Live Messenger 2009

After being forced to upgrade I get the following error over and over in
Messenger 2009:

msnmsgr.exe - Entry Point Not Found

The procedure entry point _except_handler4_common could not be located in
the dynamic link library msvcrt.dll.

This makes the product almost un-usable and I need help to fix this.

It sounds like your Visual C++ runtimes out of date.

Try installing the runtime manually (although the setup should've covered this):

install directx 9.0c
