I purchased 3 Logictech Fusion webcams...one for my daughter, my son who is
in the military, and one for me. So far we have not be able to have video
conversations. We are not sure which IM program we should be using. After
looking at your sites, it appears that WLM 8 is new. Is that the one we
should ALL be using? IF not, please advise as to what we should use. My son
is in the states now, but will be deployed next month. We want to be able to
communicate.
Thanks,
Lynn

For now, the three of you should all be using the same Instant Messenger.
Interoperability is currently being worked on between different IM's that
would allow you and your messenger friends to chat while on different
messengers.

To use Windows Live Messenger, you, your daughter and your son will each
need a hotmail account. I use Windows Live Messenger and it works great for
me...I highly recommend using WLM.

Why do we all need a hotmail account? I know my son has one, but he is the
only one.
I appreciate you responding. Are there any other tips to making it work?
The kids are wireless connections.

You don't need a Hotmail account. You need a Windows Live ID (which was
formerly known as a Passport account). A Hotmail account can be used as
your Windows Live ID. If you install Windows Live Messenger, there is a
link in the program to obtain a Windows Live ID if you don't already have
one. If you can log into Windows Live Messenger, you already have a Windows
Live ID.

Thank you John. I do appreciate your help. I am not sure if my son has his
setup correctly. I need someone who has WLM with a webcam to test out my
setup. Do you know if there is a "test site?"

Again, thanks,
Sunnyfun

Windows Live ID, hotmail account and a .net passport account are all one in
the same unless you created multiple accounts. Before there was a Windows
Live ID you used either your hotmail account or your .net passport account.

son?

Yes, I was! We both have Live now and it worked! Hopefully, it will do the
same for us when my daughter is able to join us. Thank you for your help.
