Question is probably not formatted correctly and I apologize for it but need
and answer if some one has ideas

To all I ask I am and have always had a problem with messenger video/audio
breaking up even back running windows messenger on xp home...I am now
running vista business and it is worse than ever...I and my contacts are
running dsl or cable high speed connections and yet we have these
problems...It is very important to be able to communicate with my family and
we have always used messenger for this....Video is mostly crystal clear
except with the occasional temporary freeze (of picture) returns to norm
with in a minute or less...Audio breaks up terribly...We are running new
cameras ( one Logitech ultra cam (me) a logitech pro 500 (Mom) and a
Logitech pro 4000 older brother).. I am running Vista business they are
running xp home and media center respectively...I am running windows
firewall as well as being behind a wrt54g Linksys router..My mother is
running Mcafee security and I believe my brother is also just using win
firewall.... I use SBCyahoo my mother is using charter and my brother is
using sympatico behind a Dlink router...Here is the kicker...When I
communicate with my brother everything is good...My Mother and I break up
terribly however she can also communicate with brother fine...

system config
Vista business,,AMD 64 bit processor ,,2gigs of ddr..Nvidia 7900gs vid card
and a Logitech ultra cam all with latest updates

any input as always is appreciated Thanks

You should realise that WLM is aimed at the youth market and it is not meant
to be a serious communications program. After all it is free and seems to be
managed by an out of house Microsoft team.

MSNM is always changing to fit itself to the latest yuppie trend and it is
is lots of fun but often goes wrong, then is fixed, is improved and soongoes
wrong again. It is a resource hog and causes trouble with other Microsoft
applications. There have been about ten new versions in the last two years

So regard it as a free fun tool, and if
<<It is very important to be able to communicate with my
>> family

use email or text messaging or get a Blackberry and you wil know at once if
you are getting through.

Indeed. Let's see if I can sort this out. You are not having trouble
communicating with Brother, but you are with Mother. So let's leave Bro out
of it:

Mother is running Windows XP HE with a Logitech Pro 500 web cam, and which
messenger program? On Windows XP the possibilities are:

Windows Messenger 4.7
MSN Messenger 7.x
Windows Live Messenger 8.x

I don't think that the ISP will be an issue, but whether, or not your mother
is running a router may be. It might help to know if she is running a
router. And if she isn't...is her system clean of malware? Since you and
your brother don't have trouble, but she does, it is likely some kind of
issue on her end.

In response to you I say Mother is running messenger live 8.1,,No
router..charter high speed cable internet and yes her system is clear of
malware because she is like me and religiously and meticulously goes through
her system weekly with both adaware as well as Counterspy (what Microsoft's
defender is based on ) She is running a good antivirus program and an
excellent firewall which I have configured to allow for these
communications...
