Windows live messenger 8.1 crashes at login.

Hello,

My girlfriend as the the problem that WLM 8.1 keeps crashing on her laptop
when she tries to log in on her account. (Win XP) When i try to log on my
account there is no problem.

The only difference is that she recently made a weemee.

The crash reported the file abssm.dll. I hope that's enough information for
now.

Greetings Jeroz,

The abssm.dll is part of the contact synchronization library in Messenger. As such, it's
possible perhaps something in the contact store has gone wrong.

Before blowing away some of the many Messenger contact store areas, have her upgrade to 8.5
as a quick fix to see if it deals with the problem:

Hello Jonathan Kay,

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately i have already tried to upgrade to
WLM 8.5. This version won't install on her version of Windows XP (error
message: wrong version of operating system).

She still runs service pack 1. Should i get her service pack 2 or doesn't
WLM 8.5 run on Windows XP at all?

She is able to login to WLM 8.1 on another computer by the way.

Hey man if you are using bitdefender as antivirus....then you should contact
bitdefender that helped me out and fixed my problem I had the exact same
problem as you.

Just out of curiosity, did they give you an update to fix the problem or did you end up just
tweaking something?
