Greetings Jake,
This usually happens if your keyboard layout is in the US International layout. Assuming
this isn't what you want, click Start, then choose Control Panel. Choose 'Change keyboards
or other input methods' under Clock, Language and Region, and then choose the 'Change
keyboards...' button.
Then change the default input language to English (United States) - US as opposed to the
United States-International layout.
