Windows Live Messenger 8.1 won't start

Hi guys, I've just installed Windows Vista Business yesterday and everything
seemed to be running smoothly up until the point I install WLM 8.1 (Build
178).

While the installation process went through smoothly, when I execute the
program (via shortcut, or directly going to C:\...\msnmgr.exe) nothing
happens. The mouse cursor shows that there's a bit of activity for about 2-3
seconds but after that nothing happens.

When I look at the Task Manager, I can see that an instance of the
msnmgr.exe process is started. However, WLM does not launch, nor do I see it
in the system tray. Rebooting doesn't help either, and when I reboot Vista,
for some reason Windows has blocked the startup of Messenger.

Any ideas on this one? I've tried looking around for some solutions, and
have even reinstalled WLM a few times, turned off Windows Firewall, updated
firmware of my router.

Here's the funny part, On my desktop at the office, it works fine. This
problem is only occuring to me on my personal laptop. Both computers are
running on Windows Vista Business, and same versions of WLM.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Well I'm having the exact same problem,
but I'm not even running Vista.

On another forum, I read that it may help to uninstall both Java and Flash,
which I did. That got me no where. It still won't open.

It's starting to make me aaaangry..............
