I keep trying to install Windows Live Messenger 8.5 beta and it will not get
past the accept license screen. When I click accept it disappears and does
not continue. The folder Windows live is created in my programe files folder
with an install folder with these files:
Dashboard.exe
DashboardLoc.dll
DashboardRes.dll
Dashboard_en-us.cat
hc.thm
Microsoft.VC80.CRT.manifest
msvcr80.dll
UXCore.dll
WLSetupSvc.exe

I delete the folder and try again with the same result.
I do not have any other live beta programs installed at the moment.

First of all, you need to turn off all the applications related to the
Windows Live(such as WLW and WLMD)
Next, if you have installed WLM already, you need to uninstall this.
And then, go to the control panel, choose to show the hidden files and
folders
Now you can see the the folder called ProgramData under C:/, and delete the
folder called WindowsLiveInstaller and WLInstaller.
Then go to the C:\Program Files\Windows Live and also delete the folder
called installer.
At this step, everything is done. Now restart your computer, and try to
install again. I think that will be no problem appear.

Actually real easy. All you need to do when installing new software
upgrades are the following:

Download and save the Upgrade.

Go to Add or Remove Programs and uninstall the old version. Reboot.

Now disable your Anti-Virus Background scanning for Viruses and your
Anti-Spyware scanning for Spyware.

Now click to install the upgrade software. Sometimes you will need to
reboot afterwards, but rebooting will also turn back on scanning your had to
turn off as well. Unless you do it manually.

nope..you instructions do not apply. the beta has a bug in the installer...

this is a public beta and should not have had such an apparent bug
that I found out in 1 minute after downloading the stupid thing

Found this on neowins board

Navigate to
C:/ProgramData (Vista)
or
C:/Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data (XP)
and delete following folders: "WindowsLiveInstaller" and "WLInstaller".

Then try to reinstall. It should work now

Try this --
on XP clich start> RUN> type the line below
On Vista click Start, type the line below

"%programfiles%\Windows Live" and hit Enter. Then right-click
the Installer folder and choose Delete.

Next, click Start again, type "%programdata%", hit Enter and delete the
Windows Live
Installer and WLInstaller folders.
