Hi everyone, I opened WLM 8.5 this morning to see that it was offerin
an update, I heard it was for WLM 2009 but I can't confirm that becaus
I haven't seen it, as it wont' update

It'll go up to 99% then it will roll back

Here's the error

A network error occured while attempting to read from the file
C:\Windows\Install_[508CE775-4BA4-4748-82DF-FE28DA9F03B0].ms

I've tried everything I could locate, which wasn't much, just a few su
par KB articles that don't directly address the issue and send you a
epic circle of 'check this article'

Has anyone seen this before and happen to know a firm solution for it?
This is the only program doing this, I removed and reinstalled a fe
apps, a few of them MS ones as well to test, only Windows Live apps hav
this problem

Thanks

Greetings,

Intriguing. The 508CE775-4BA4-4748-82DF-FE28DA9F03B0 guid is actually for Windows Live
Messenger 8.5. I don't really understand why it would be in C:\Windows in the first place.

There's lots of solutions here should you really want 2009, but for fun and your peace of
mind, lets try and make it happy without using a blunt instrument. To do so, download the
8.5 MSI (Microsoft Installer) file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/redir/wlm85.asp

Save it to your desktop, then rename it to the file it's looking for,
Install_[508CE775-4BA4-4748-82DF-FE28DA9F03B0]. Then move that into the \Windows folder.

After that you can go ahead and upgrade the installation like before.

Hey there,

Move "C:\Program Files\Common
Files\WindowsLiveInstaller\MsiSources\Install_{508 CE775-4BA4-4748-82DF-FE28DA9F03B0}.msi" to "C:\Windows\".

Let me know if that helps.

Hi Jonathan,

So, I have the same problem as the person above me. Except that I cannot use
the messenger because "A new version is available. You must install the newer
version to continue. Would you like to do this now?" Yes, I very much want to
do this. But this unknown error here hr:0x8007064 is wasting my time.

Someone please HELP.

Greetings Fatima,

So you're trying to install 2009 then? That said, it would probably be useful to find out
exactly what's going on by installing the MSI files manually.

You can do this by heading to the following entry on my blog, going under the Messenger
heading and running the necessary MSI files manually from there:
http://messengergeek.spaces.live.com...DA1!3332.entry

You should receive a more accurate error message while you do this.

without installing it

Any ideas?

In the end this worked for me, but file is not
Install_[508CE775-4BA4-4748-82DF-FE28DA9F03B0]....it is
Install_{508CE775-4BA4-4748-82DF-FE28DA9F03B0}. Has to be {} instead of [].
Thank you for your help!
