Windows Live Messenger crashes after installing KB974470 (Vista SP

I installed SP2 on vista happily enough this weekend. Windows live messenger
worked fine.

Wednesday I installed the above update. And Windows Live Messenger crashes
shortly after I log in.

Uninstalling the above update fixes the problem.

Attempting the "download and run the installer" method (as found somewhere
on the web) doesn't do anything.

How can something like this be missed in testing?

Just to confirm, which Vista edition is this and which Messenger version?

Here on Win7 it kept on working fine.

Hi - this is windows vista home premium service pack 2,
Windows live messenger version 2009 build 14.0.8089.726

Any thoughts, updates or help?
