If a ".exe" version of Windows Live Mail is called Windows Live Mail
Desktop, then why isn't Windows Live Messenger named the same?

It should be Windows Live Messenger Desktop for the one you install on
Windows, and...

Windows Live Messenger for the new version for "MSN Web Messenger"

Greetings,

Bit different I think, instant messaging applications generally are local apps.

Simple: they want to give emphasis on web mail more
than they want to give emphasis on web messenger.
They prefer people to use the installable version of msn messenger.

Its their game of naming old things in a new way and shifting names around.

As for your search of logic.....you are looking in the wrong place.

well I'll be buggered. not in a literal sense of course. I always thought
webmessenger would be one of those fads that would die eventually. like
neopets.

Long time no see scott, how are you mate?

I'm very well thank you. I doubt webmessenger will be a fad as it has a
massive use for people in schools and companies where the thick client
cannot be installed, or firewalls prevent accessing it (as in my case )
