Hello! I'm from Hungary. I used my 'old' maybe 8.6 messenger when i was
forced to upgrade to 9.0. Since then i have been unable to sign in to my
messenger. The installation was successful, i got the icon but after that
nothing happens. I click on it but it doesn't work. I repeated the whole
process 3-4 times but still not working. Now i can only use 7.0 because this
is the only one that works.
I posted my problem to other groups, no one could help me and they directed
me here.
Note: I don't have firewall, so that could not be the problem.

I'm guessing you are using Vista and SP2. I wish you had found my post
http://www.bigblueball.com/im/wlm/vista-sp2-wlm-fail/ with regard to this
exact problem.

If you are not using Vista let me know - but otherwise I don't have any
solution as you have obviously already uninstalled WLM several times. I am
not aware of any solutions at this time if you have already done that.

Can I just confirm again please, when you clicked the icon on your desktop
did you get anything? Was there any indication the program was loading? The
hourglass? Or did the program load and you were just unable to sign in
successfully?

Greetings,

When you kept trying to start Messenger, did you happen to notice if it kept creating more
msnmsgr.exe processes with each try (seen under the Processes tab in the Task Manager)?

That would indicate that it's actually initializing but getting stuck as opposed to starting
and simply crashing silently, which provides some clues to what may be the problem.

It can NOT work as you already have Messenger installed, It is not possible
to install over.

What anti-virus are you using? Also, have you scanned for malware? If you get
the hourglass it is trying to load something, but it sounds like something is
blocking it from doing so.

Also, have you tried navigating to the program folders and launching it from
the .exe file instead of the icon on the desktop?

I'm using NOD. But i don't think this was the problem. I also tought that
something was blocking it. But i didn't find anything.

I tried the .exe file also, but it didn't work either. This situation is
getting stranger and stranger.

I've run into the same problem at my parents' home. They've been forced to
completely give up on the program for months, now.

I've tried installing and running it with the antivirus off, the firewall
off, everything... nothing works. See message I just posted about it
entitled : "After suffering for months..."

Let's see if we can find a common denominator on the two systems. You say
you use NOD. They use AVG, so that's not it.

Both are running XP. You're on SP2. I believe they're on SP3, but I could be
mistaken.

The machine is a HP. What's your brand?
