Windows Live Messenger has stopped working

Whenever I start Windows Live Messenger, it just pops up with the 'Windows
Live Messenger has stopped working' and windows is trying to find a solution.
I was installing a new BIOS (F.15 -> F.18) then Windows Live Messenger and
Skype has stopped working ever since.
Could someone please help?

I run on windows 7 professional x86
HP Pavilion dv3500 P7450
BIOS HP F.15, 4/05/2009 (downgraded back down)
SMBIOS version 2.4

Solution found!!

McAfee's Norton Anti Virus is likely crashing your Live Mail program. Even
if you think you have uninstalled it.

Dell and many other computers come with Norton Anti-Virus installed.

Simply using the Windows Uninstall doesn't remove all of the offending
Norton code. You also need to run a separate cleaner called MCPR see:

I am running Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit OS. My Windows Live
Messenger stops working when I log on to Windows. Can someone please help me.
