Windows Live Messenger "has stopped working" (VISTA)

I've had this notebook for a week now and up until a few days ago WLM 8.1 was
working fine. Then it started hitting me with "WLM has stopped working"
messages every single time I sign in, and it crashes. every single time
without fail. tried uninstalling and reinstalling several different
versions, as well as the latest one, to no avail.

WHEN WILL WE HAVE A SOLUTION FOR WINDOWS LIVE MESSENGER "HAS STOPPED
WORKING" WITH WINDOWS VISTA???

well apparently it's a widespread issue, if you do a few quick google
searches and read people's experiences on several different discussion
forums, etc.

certainly tried all you mentioned (first thing) and a bunch more. i'm
currently taking it up with WLM tech support, but as of yesterday the problem
seems to have manifested itself with other programs also, like IE, Adobe
Reader, even Windows Help and Support, Data Execution Prevention, etc..

it did begin with WLM though, and that's where the bulk of the problem seems
to lie.

I suddenly developed the exact same problem today after Windows Live Messenger had worked fine on my new Toshiba laptop since it bought it a couple months ago. I discovered by accident that if I left click on the WLM icon or shortcut and choose "Run as administrator" it opens and runs fine. Don't ask me why since I'm already logged into Vista Premium as administrator, but it works now every time.

My WLM starts with windows so I don't have to right click for anything
other than changing my status.

EDIT: You do mean right click and choose "run as administrator" from
the context menu correct?
