Windows Live Messenger: Logs Unspecified Error When Saving/Deletin

I have been having issues trying to save or delete logs from a friends
conversation. Everytime I close the conversation, the screen pops up asking
me to save older messages or delete, and choosing either of them pops up
another screen saying Unspecified Error. Is there any solution to this, I
have been kinda annoyed by this.

Link to box that pops up:

This is the screen that shows up after i try saving or deleting.

Greetings,

You'll get this message if it can't parse the XML - for instance, if some binary data has
managed to get in there (or something similar).

Your best bet is to simply rename the file mentioned in the message on your own and start
fresh with a new file.

Hi,

The "numbers" are just a hash of the person's e-mail address, regardless, it won't/shouldn't
matter what you rename it as long as the file is different.

This sounds intriguing -- just to confirm the exact course of events, you're still being
prompted to save/delete after renaming file (and restarting Messenger)?

yes, its still doing the same thing after "trying" to rename it, it wont save
if i try to rename it (or not rename it). Also, i cant delete older logs
either, it wont let me delete them when i select delete on the screen that
pops up: http://i453.photobucket.com/albums/q...ntitled1-1.jpg

I have also uninstalled MSN, and re-installed it, but it seems to make no
difference and continues to do the same thing. I don't know whats the
problem. The "Unspecified Error" screen keeps showing up (the one i posted a
link to earlier).

what i did just now was delete the logs manually by going to Documents\My
Received Files\LiveID\History then simply deleted everything in this folder.
I think this solved the problem, but im not sure if its a permanent solution,
if this happens again after the message history seems to overflow again and
give me the unspecified error, i'll post a new topic, but as of now it seems
to be temporarily fixed. Thanks a lot Jonathan for your help, however, glad
theres people out there to lend a hand. ;P

Greetings,

To add, if you're really serious about having a Messenger history, you'll probably want to
use something other than Messenger itself for that purpose. For instance Messenger Plus!
Live (http://www.msgplus.net), does a far better job than Messenger itself as it saves all
the rich part of the conversation (text colours, emoticons, etc.) and doesn't force you to
re-save/delete anything.
