If I click on "Messenger" in the command bar in IE the original Windows
Messenger starts. I have Windows Live Messenger installed. I have looked at
the Program Access & Defaults in Add/Remove Programs to change the default,
but Windows Live Messenger does not appear there as an option.

Any clues?

Greetings John,

It's hardcoded to Windows Messenger.

If you wish to have Windows Live Messenger start instead, close all Internet Explorer windows
and then download/run the following .reg file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/dow..._ietoolbar.reg

Now when you start IE, the Messenger icon will start Live Messenger.

What are the outcomes of this?
You can use WLM on IE?

Yes - I applied Jonathon's fix to a computer with IE 8 B2 and it now points
to WLM

Hello Jonathan:

Some how my MSN turned to be the DEFAULT email program for emails which I do
not like it. I explain: everytime I am at windows explorer looking at some
pictures and I select some and hit right click on mouse and chose SEND TO/
MAIL RECIPIENT the Windows Live starts and the only option is to send via my
hotmail account. Before I had the Outlook opened where I could choose which
email account I would like to send it from. In Outlook I have different
emails account that I can choose which will be the SENDER.
Instead, with Windows Live the SENDER option is always my hotmail account.

How to revert the Default Email Programing back to Outlook or how to
un-default the Windows Live email account ?

Thanks a lot.

Greetings,

The default mail program that Windows uses is totally controllable. Just open up an Internet
Explorer window, choose the Tools menu, then Internet Options, then the Programs tab and
choose Microsoft Office Outlook for the E-mail program to use.

Thank you John
I used the .reg file and now have WLM icon in IE8. Is there a way to have
it run automatically when I open IE8 like when I had MSN?
Thanks
Regards
Peter
