Windows Live Messenger only downloads to 99%

I recently purchased an HP Pavillion Notebook that came with Vista Home
Premium edition. I have tried for the last two days to download the most
recent version of messenger, and it downloads fine until it reaches 99%. I
have uninstalled and tried to re-install, but to no avail. I have downloaded
the service pack for Vista, and re-tried, but still no luck. I am SO
frustrated!!

If anyone knows a solution to this problem, it would be GREATLY appreciated.

Start>Control Panel>Programs>Uninstall it if it is there.
Then download from above link.

Download Messenger installer to a folder, run it after the download is
complete:
