I got a problem. I have two computers running XP Home and the latest
version of Windows Live Messenger 8.5. I can't share files between
them with the Hot mail addresses I've had for years, BUT I sign in
with a different I.D. and password on either computer and file share
works fine in both directions. This makes me think it is not anything
in either of my puters but something to do with the server. Anybody
have any ideas on this. I'm stumped. I've un installed and reinstalled
both. I run the trouble shooter and have not come across any thing
like this anywhere. I don't want to have to make two new I.D.'s and do
all the crap that it entails.
Got any Ideas Jonathan, sure could use some of your smarts
about right now.

Greetings,

The Sharing Folders feature can be turned off per-locale, so it's possible that whatever your
locale is set in your Live ID in that one account has sharing folders blocked. However, the
feature shouldn't even appear (no icon or anything).

If this is the case, you might try comparing what you have set as your location/address in
your Live ID in both accounts here:

Thanks Jonathan for the come back. I don't understand what you
mean by locale, my address? I ran the .aspx link below and signed in
on both identities and I don't find anything blocking sharing folders.
I am running windows live one care on both computers and messenger is
allowed on both. I can't understand how I have something wrong in my
settings on either messenger identity or setup.
I just signed up with a new live identity and set it up in
messenger on both computers. I then chose the file I could not get
either one of my messenger names to send or receive either way.
Using the new I.D. I signed on to"my" computer and sent the
file to and relieved it from my wifes puter. I then signed on to her
puter with my new I.D. and sent and relieved the file from "my" puter.
I signed in with the old I.D.'s and it just sets there trying
to synchronize, Looking in the event viewer I see the file has been
synchronized and deleted but never arriving.
I tried my best to explain my situation, I hope you can solve
this for me. Thanks again Jonathan.

Hi,

By locale I mean country. It won't say it big flashing letters 'Sharing folders will not
work' or anything (in fact it won't say anything at all), but what's available in each locale
is different.

Either way, that's not the issue here as the feature wouldn't even show up -- there would be
no dialog box to see Synchronizing or otherwise.

One thing you might try is rebuilding your Sharing Folders in that account. Note that this
will remove everything in your Sharing Folders locally, so you will want to copy over
anything important first. Then, login to the troublesome account, press the Alt key on the
keyboard to bring up the menubar, choose the Tools menu, then Options and then Sharing
Folders.

Uncheck the top Sharing Folders option to turn it off and confirm. Click Apply if available
and then turn it back on. Now make a new sharing folder with your testing contact and see
what happens.

Jonathan, I knew you would come through with a solution! By
rebuilding the sharing folders in both accounts and turning them off
and back on again got my sharing folders working again and it cleared
up what ever was wrong. Both accounts are working like a charm.

Thank you again.
Ciao..............

I'm having this same problem, though I have two different out comes.

With one user MSN Live attempts to sync the pictures and flashes their names
in the progress bar an 0%.

With another user MSN Live fails to sync completely.

All users are Windows XP Pro SP3 and the service worked just a month ago.
Then something changed, I suspect with how MSN Live treats sharing folders.

Jonathan, can you help resolve this? It was one of the most useful features
MSN has ever released and allows us all to share family photos.

*Bump

I am have the same issues as the above poster with the 0% thin
happening

This happens on two separtate computers, to one contact in particular
Things were working great until about the second week of july
The contact at that point began using a new laptop
Some files sync'd over, and then around July 14th, is when the 0% thin
began to happen

Both of us are able to share with other contacts, and in fact, m
contact can add files to the sharing folder which get sync'd to m
computer as well. However, nothing seems to go FROM my computer t
theirs

I have attempted the solution of rebulilding the sharing folder b
deleting the folder, and then turning sharing folders off then on, an
then putting the files back into the sharing folder
my contact has removed our sharing folder completely, so when sh
signsi n next, it should ask her to share files with me, and we shal
see what happens then

my home computer is XP sp3, my laptop is XP sp2, and her laptop is x
sp2
Both my computers experience the 0% issue and both computers ca
recieve files she adds
Send files within a chat works fine

Is there anything else I can try
