Greetings txmike,
When you start Hotmail, the Messenger API is called and Messenger starts if its installed.
If Messenger hadn't been started before, or had been removed from the Windows startup using a
third-party tool that wasn't Messenger, then when it starts again, it will re-add itself to
your Windows login startup list.
To stop it, bring up the main Messenger window (if you can't find it, just start Windows Live
Messenger from the Windows Live group on the start menu), press the Alt key on the keyboard
to show the menu bar, choose the Tools menu, then Options, then Sign In category, then
uncheck 'Automatically run Windows Live Messenger when I log on to Windows' and choose OK.
You can then exit Messenger and it won't startup with the Windows startup -- even if it's run
again.
