Windows Live Messenger start/shut down loop

Hi all
Just rebooted my pc, and when it came to Live Messenger starting, what
happened was this:-
Live Messenger starts, try to connect, connects, then i get an immediate
windows install window appear, Live Messenger exits, and stays exited.
If i start Live Messenger manually, i mmediately get a windows install
window appear, Live Messenger starts, then exits itself, and the whole
process just restarts again.
So Live Messenger never actually stays running, it is stuck in some sort of
install/exit loop.
This was, and has been working flawlessly until my last reboot.
Not sure what to do, any ideas please?

I would guess that a file has been corrupted - it happens. Download the
newest version and install. I have had similar problem with another app and
reinstall did the trick.
