Windows live messenger sucks!

It takes too long to sign in and keeps losing connections very often
especially when I am in the middle of a conversation which really sucks big
time! MSN Messenger would never do that. Why does this happen?
Also many times it says it cannot change my display name while starting up
when I haven't even asked it to do anything! Why is this?
Why is there no "Check for Updates" feature in the menu? Just today I found
out that the latest version is 8.1 and I have 8.0. I think it should
automatically check for updates and prompt if a new version is available.
Many other softwares do that and I did not expect a great company like
Microsoft to overlook such an essential feature!!!

Are you sure that you are runnig the "real" version of Windows Live
messenger? i use WLM for a while now and i never encountered big problems,
even not whit the beta.
the reason why you don't update automaticly to version 8.1 is probarly
because it's still a beta version

Greetings,

It checks for updates every time you sign in. 8.1 is a beta release at present so you're not
notified.

Sometimes it gives ridiculous notifications like "You have 1 message in your
Inbox" when actually I have 3500!

there are other solutions, hey I have tried them all...

1) you can install the older msn 7.5 or even copy the folder from another
computer that has that installed and use it as a "stand alone" edition while
you have live 8.0 installed normally

2) you can use windows messenger
3) you can use AMSN messenger
4) Trillian basic
5) Gaim (get the latest beta)
6) there are many other clients around if you search.... that can connect to
the msn network as well as other networks at the same time...

If you get the latest beta you can store your personal message, display
picture and display name on the server.

Also, when you add new contact you can send them personal invitations
using the usual windows dialog box instead of an email.

I've installed the latest beta 8.1 and even that keeps losing connection. It
doesn't seem to detect the internet connection even though I am connected!
