approx. three weeks ago I was able to Sign onto MSN messenger and everytime
I signed on there would be a pop up saying that a new version of msn is
available click to download . .something along those lines. Anyways one day I
was going to sign onto msn and everytime it says a newer version has been
downloaded and is available. you must install this newer version in order to
continue . would you like to do this now? and i click yes . . it goes through
the downloading process then it says unable to download these programs (
windows live messenger, mail . . etc.) with little red Xs beside them ! and i
have no clue why this problem is happening .

Hi,
I have kind of the same thing.
I have version: 8.1.0178.00 on Windows XP sp3 Home EN.
The application doesn't show in my installed software overview
anymore.(installed software overview in Configuration menu) So I can't
uninstall it. 'windows clean up utility from microsoft doesn't show it also.
When I start windows live messenger it forces me to download the latest
version(I can't bypass it to sign in). After downloading/installing it gives
an error(red cross) that messenger is not updated.

How can I clean up the old version and/or install the new version of Windows
Live messenger?
