11-27-09 We are up against the newer version error and are trying to update
to the latest version on an XP pc. 8064.206 to what should be 8089.726
judging from a current win 7 pc

On the XP pc, the live component install screen progresses normally until
50% then stops and eventually times out.

It claims there is an internet connection issue which is bogus as we have
done simultaneous streaming activity to monitor the capability of the
connection while we download.

Does anyone know where the current .msi installation file resides or what
could be choking at the 50% mark and a way to get around it?

Is there any means to do a clean and pure uninstall of live components and
start from scratch if that is a potential issue?

Next steps while we wait for suggestions are to try disabling antivirus
software, router resets (we think that is a bogus suggestion), and to get
live to unistall via brute force deletions and registry cleaning. Prefer
something a little more elegant and less brute force.

-Thanks.

Problem solved - microsoft's live messenger install is flawed or ours was
corrupted. It couldn't handle an update with the old version installed.

From add/remove programs, we uninstalled ALL live components.

Then we ran windows installer cleanup utility.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

(Look at the VERY bottom, one LIVE component was in the list out of
alphabetical order)

Then we did a fresh install from the live messenger link:

Annoying.

Hi,

The installer has a number of issues, you're hardly the first to have to go through this
process.

The MSIs can be found here however, for future reference:
