when i login into my windows live messenger 9, i signs on as it would
normally but after about a minute or so...it says that it has encountered an
error and needs to close. it never used to do that before, i tried repairing
it and also reinstalling it. rite now im at a loss as to what else i could've
done. it seems to me that this started happening after my brother installed a
private sever on the pc...im assuming that this might affect the programs of
windows live, today i will try uninstalling the private sever and then log
into windows live.

if anyone could give me some advice it would be much appreciated...thank you

Greetings,

Which version of Windows is this? If it's XP, in the "needs to close dialog" you'll see a
link to to see what's in the error report, click that and paste the info here as that can in
some cases be useful.

Unfortunately though, in a lot of cases, it's really difficult to say what's interfering with
it without looking at the dump files. Even then, it still can be questionable. One
question however, is it Windows Live Messenger itself that's crashing or the Windows Live
Contacts Platform?

All that considered, if uninstallation of whatever this server software is doesn't help, you
might consider using System Restore to restore back to when it was working. In XP you can
get there by clicking Start, then Help & Support, then 'Undo changes to my computer using
System Restore'. In Vista, just click Start, type system restore in the search field and
click System Restore when it shows up.
