I am running windows vista home premium and IExplorer 8 ..I have used the
windows live safety scanner many times in the last year..The last couple of
times I tried running it I got the following message
We're sorry. This version of the Windows Live OneCare safety scanner doesn't
work with your Web browser or operating system.
It goes on to say that I need to have windows vista and internet
explorer...any ideas why this could be happening??

I get the same message:

If I click this link (XP/Earlier) :
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-my/default.htm
It won't work and says I need Windows XP.

If I click this link (for Vista/Win 7)
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-my/center/whatsnew.htm

It won't work in Firefox, but I do get it to work in IE8.

Can you try the second link here, and post back any further result/problem?

Interesting thing is that my wife and I share the Vista (home basic, latest
updates and IE8) computer.
On her user, the safety scanner works just fine.
On my user, the safety scanner will not run and tells me that I do not have
the correct operating system. We both have administrator privileges and UAC
is off.

I tried setting all the IE8 options back to default and does not change
anything.

For what it's worth, I'm the one that does all the updates and computer
maintenance. Anything new will affect my user first.

When I want to run the safety scanner, I now just do it from my wife's
login. Works fine. Perhaps the solution for now is to create a new user with
admin rights and try running the scanner from that account.

One thing to check in the IE tools- options- advanced_options:
Make sure that you allow activeX content to run. When you load the scanner
initially, you will get a drop-down prompt for load/block ActiveX. Accept
the download.

Hope that helps - Oppie
