Windows Live: Why dont make it easy for administrators ?

I am sick of spending lots of time with every new release of Messenger trying
to find the right MSI package to deploy to our computer before the support
calls start flowing in with customers/employees that CAN NOT install new
version due to lack of user rights. People want the new version; and I am
determined to give it to them.. But guys, guys, guys; you dont make it easy
for us ..!! There is NO link on the Windows Live download page nor on
microsoft.com that points to an administrative installation download. And I
have to hack the installer EVERY time in order to extract the neccessary
information...

I'd like to deploy it but can not due to some one not thinking about people
like us - I will end up deploying a compatible IM program like aMSN,
Trillion, Yahoo messenger instead on our corporate desktops - the last
alternative is the default messenger in Windows; aka Windows Messenger 4.7.
THAT would be a disaster...

so guys, get on your horses and help us - that's what you are there for...!

Stephen already linked you to the MSIs and they do have the normal MSI Administrative
installs, however I just want you to be aware that myself and other MVPs have brought this
scenario over and over again to Microsoft for years but unfortunately it hasn't materialized.

We will continue our best efforts to convince them.

I have seen your msi hack and used it a couple of times. . it is great.. but
as you mention; it should not be neccessary for "others" to hack the product.
The problem I have is that I need the DAN-localized version; and not the US
one ...or is it MUI ? Any ideas ?

I seriously believe this issue has come up because of poor planning from the
msn/live group. Any product that has this attention around should be made
available as administrative installs - but the right people is not taking
action or may not even be listening...

Who can I write an email to in order to complain ?

I totally agree.
When Windows Defender came out, Microsoft produced an ADM File for managing
it, but I've never seen any mention of ADM files for the Windows Live suite
to allow it to be managed and the fact that the MSI's on previous versions
needed to be hacked to allow the installation isn't good either.

There aren't any and to be perfectly honest, it's been claimed they don't need GPOs as it's a
"consumer product" -- which is just silly

Hi,

It is MUI.. sort-of (not Windows standard MUI). All the versions are the same except for one
DLL which has the localized bits in it. I've been meaning to collect those and put them up
but no one's actually requested it before till now.

Here's the Danish version of the MSI (just open up the cab and extract it):

You'll also need the other components listed on my site under Messenger, the most important
being the Contacts.msi which isn't localized at all so you can feel free to just use the one
there. The other components (error reporting, etc.) aren't localized either, so you can feel
free to use those on the site as well.
