Windows Mail Problem

Okay, I've had LOTS of problems with Windows Mail. The current one is
that, even though the messages in my various local folders are intact
and correct (as can be confirmed by looking at them in a text viewer),
Windows Mail, when clicking on a message to view or to reply to shows a
different message, and always the same one, no matter what message in
the folder is pointed to.

It's a different message in each folder, but it looks like they're all
the same to WM. They are NOT, though, as confirmed above.

So, WM is SEVERELY confused. I've done the Reindex thing, and it doesn't
seem to help. How do I get it to read everything correctly?

Regards,

Rick Raisley

Hi Rick,

You might try to reset Windows Mail. Go to the link below and scroll
down a bit and do the section: "Reset Windows Mail".

Make sure that you have all email scanning options turned off in your
antivirus program. Thay have been know to cause corruption in Windows
Mail.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Thanks for the link. I'm probably going to go through this entire Reset
Windows Mail routine, but one thing bothers me about it:

All you do to bring back the messages is to copy the Local Folders
folder back. Well, mine is /really/ messed up, and in fact I have 3:
Local Folders, Local Folders (1) and Local Folders (2). Almost all
messages are in Recovered folders on them, and it's /really/ a mess. I
would LOVE to get all my messages organized back into the proper Local
Folders area only. Think that's possible? Any idea how?

Regards,

Rick

I had a similar problem with Windows Live Mail. You can select the items in
the Recovered folders and move them to real folders. It might work for you.

Rick,

Yes, you can get them all back into the same folder, but you will have
to do it manually in the outlined manner in the tutorial. Just copy
them from the backup of each folder and put them in the new one when you
get through with the reset.

Let me know if you have any confusion over the instructions. I really
want to make them as simple to follow along as possible.

Hope this helps,
Shawn
