Windows malicious software removal tool doesn't like me.

I recently installed Windows Vista and have kept my computer updated, but
one update it not only incompatible, but sets off a full-scale computer
crash. At one percent of installing the Malicious Software Removal tool, the
computer freezes then displays a blue screen. This is not the blue screen of
death, as it is a much darker shade of Blue and has no writing on it. Does
anyone know why this is happening.

I am at a loss as to what to do. This is the second time I have lost all my
documents open at the time to this fault.
