Windows MCE DOES do QAM

Hi CSM1-

If MCE includes the TV Pack, then it does see/tune unencrypted QAM channels. I have a cable running straight into my tuner card from the wall (no box) and it tunes the unencrypted HD digital channels (up to 100) with no problem. In fact, I don't even have it set up to tune the analog cable channels. With my tuner card (Hauppauge 1600), ATSC signals go into one coax connection, QAM goes into another coax connection. I've set up MCE because my ReplayTV DVR only has an analog tuner, and I'd like to record/time-shift in HD. This is all working fine with channels up to 80 or 90, but my tuner won't see the 3-digit channels that my TV's unencrypted QAM tuner sees. Even if I try to add the channels manually, MCE tells me that there's no signal.
To be clear: if I run setup on my TV, with nothing more than a cable from the wall for an input, it will see roughly 100 channels, including some that are audio only. If I run setup on MCE, it only sees 33 channels, and nothing that's 3 digits. Any ideas?

The reason is that on the Cable all the channels above 100 are QAM encoded,
Media Center does not do QAM

You must have a Cable box to decode the channels above 100

If that is the case, you need to connect the output of the cable box to the

allow the PC to change the channels on the cable box.

One of the coax connector inputs on your 1600 card is for analog SD NTSC TV
or analog video capture using S-video. The other input connector is for
either OTA ATSC digital or for clear QAM cable digital. You can not use the
tuner concurrently for OTA ATSC digital and cable QAM digital. You are
seeing 2 digit analog channels which can go from 2-100, Since you are
seeing no SD or HD QAM digital channels since they will all have a
sub-channel identifier such as 2-1, 7-1, 7-2. It sounds like you have cable
connected to the analog tuner and your antenna connected to the digital
tuner.
Windows 7 MC supports QAM digital with full MS support so you are better
of with it then with an supported copy of TV-pack
