Windows ME and Root Certificate Update

I had to reformat my PC over the weekend and after reinstalling Windows ME,
I was attempting to reinstall my Antivirus software. The antivirus software
requires the Root Certificate Update from Windows Update, but when I ran the
Windows Update, I could not find it! Is it no longer available? I know I
installed it in the past, so what happened?

I tried loading all the available Updates, including the latest IE Version 6
Service Pack, but no luck. The antivirus install still says it needs the
Root Certificate Update.

Is there somewhere else where I can get this Update?

Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve,

Hopefully, this will help:

Error: "You must have the Root Certificate Update installed. . ." while
installing Symantec AntiVirus 9 Client on Windows 98 or Windows Me

No, that does not help - those were the instructions I was trying to follow.

When I got to step 4: Scroll through the list until you see Root
Certificates Update,
it was not there. I've installed many PC's over the years and I know that
it was there previously.

Is it possible that it has been removed from the available updates for some
reason? Can you confirm that it really is still available?

Thanks again,
Steve

No, I can't confirm that it really is still available........all I can
confirm is that it shows up in the WU Installation History on my rig running
WIN98SE, which I clean installed back in April of this year.

Did you try d/loading it from the link that is in Step 2 of that Symantec KB
article?

Steve,

I *dimly* recall it still being available from the Windows Update Catalog:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/323166

Don't remember the exact steps to locate it, but it was listed for Win ME.

Steve, I hope it helps... It worked for me!

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...=tranus_con_sl

Step 2: download and run the file
" If you want to include the update file in a separate package, you can
download the patch directly from the Microsoft Web site. "

Everyone, as far as I am concerned, the detail is

1. Automatic Update provided by Microsoft for WinMe updating does not contain
Root Certificate Update installation
2. go to Symantec's trouble shootin page
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...=tranus_con_sl

3 solution listed in the page above is effective and availble, just the link
in the second point : " download the patch directly from the Microsoft
Web site."

This link would bring you package for Root Certificate Update.
