I downloaded the trial of the Microsoft Office 2003. I am running on Windows
ME. When I attempt to install the download, the installation begins. Then,
after about 2 minutes I get an error message telling me that I need a newer
version of Windows for the software.

I've tried looking everywhere I can think of to get the answer, at one
point there was a reference to SP3 update, then I couldn't locate it for ME,
I only found XP. I installed all of the critical updates for ME & all of the
MS office updates (other than language and music) and still can't install.
I've restarted my PC after every update. Help!!!

This is driving me nuts & I'm trying to meet a work deadline & need the
excel module. I have MS2000 on my PC, but it doesn't have excel.

I'd appreciate any suggestions!

Thank you,
Deb

I guess you didn't read the system requirements for Office 2003

Office 2003 system requirements
All Microsoft Office editions in the 2003 release have approximately the
same minimum system requirements.

Processor Pentium 233 MHz or higher processor; Pentium III recommended
Operating system Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 or later, or Windows
XP or later (recommended)
Memory 128 MB or higher RAM (recommended)
Monitor Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher resolution with 256 colors

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note None of the Microsoft Office editions in the 2003 release run on the
Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition, Windows 98, or Windows NT® operating
systems. If any client computers are currently running one of these operating
systems, you must upgrade the operating system before installing Microsoft
Office.

Office 2003 will only work with either a Windows 2000
or Windows XP operating system. Windows ME is not
supported for installing Office 2003. You'll need to upgrade
your Windows ME operation system to Windows XP before
you can install any version of Office 2003.

Thank you both very much. I'm feeling foolish right now... I did read that,
but I was sure (I don't know why) that I could update ME to be compatable.

Do either of you know where I can find excel (alone not part of
MSOffice)that would be compatable with MS Office 2000 & Windows ME, that I
could download tonight? I'm trying (unsuccessfully @ this point) to meet a
deadline.

Thanks again!
