You have what is now termed a 'clean' install' of Windows ME - with NO
updates installed.
you need to go to Windows Update (Open IE, and go to Tools, then Windows
Update.
You need to download ALL the available Critical Updates - but do it in this
order.....
1) The System restore update - download this one on its own, and install it,
then reboot
2) IE6SP1 - download and install this update - again on its own - with a
reboot at the end
3) the Help and Support update - again on its own - and reboot
4) anything else - but NO MORE THAN 2 or 3 AT A TIME!!!! - reboot between
each set of updates, and report back here with details of any error messages
you encounter in the meantime.
HTH - and good luck! (perseverance is worth it, in the long run!!)
