Windows ME takes forever to load

When I restart my computer now running ME, It takes about 10 minutes to come
up. It says it's checking my configuration files, but I haven't added
anything. Any suggestions?

I had ad-aware for awhile. Thought I'd never get it removed. It was worse
than the spyware it identified, but maybe it's been improved. Thanks.
